Children at an Islington school raised more than £1,800 to help victims of the hurricane disaster in the Philippines.
Mandy Reese, headteacher at Hanover Primary School, in Noel Road, handed over a cheque for £1,815 to Hywell Griffith, from Unicef, on behalf of the public-spirited pupils.
The cash – raised through sponsored activities youngsters did in their PE lessons – will go towards the charity’s emergency appeal to help those affected by Typhoon Haiyan, which ripped through the south east Asian country last year, killing thousands of people.
The United Nations estimate more than 11 million people have been affected by the storm, with 673,000 displaced.
