A man found carrying a stun gun and knife at a Tube station has been jailed for five years.

Christopher Broome, 36, was stopped at Old Street Station, in Finsbury, on October 16 after British Transport Police (BTP) officers noticed two men acting suspiciously.

When they were searched, Broome was found with a lock knife with a 3.5 in blade and a stun gun disguised as a mobile phone.

The judge at Blackfriars Crown Court handed down a five year term for the gun and a nine month concurrent sentence for the blade on Friday.

The court also ordered both weapons to be destroyed.

Insp Brian Drayson said: “Thanks to the quick actions of the officer who was on patrol at Old Street station, Broome was caught and prosecuted.

“The detection of the stun gun weapon was a particularly good spot and may have been easily missed due to its realistic appearance as a mobile phone.

“I hope Broome’s sentence sends a clear message that BTP takes incidents like this very seriously and anyone caught carrying a weapon on the railway network will be arrested and prosecuted.”

Christopher Broome, of Welham Road, Tooting, pleaded guilty to possessing a prohibited weapon (disguised firearm) and possessing a knife blade.
