The 45-year-old passed away yesterday evening at the Royal London Hospital, prompting detectives from the Homicide and Serious Crime Command (HSCC) to launch a murder investigation.

Police arrested a 35-year-old man in connection with the investigation into the assault at around 6am yesterday. Following the victim’s death, the man was further arrested on suspicion of murder and remains in custody.

Officers were called at around 7.50pm on Tuesday to Isledon Road to reports of a man unconscious in the street.

He had sustained a head injury, which police believe was from an assault.

The victim’s next of kin are aware, and although police believe they know his identity they are waiting for formal identification.

A post-mortem is due to take place today.

Anyone with information should call police on 020 8345 3715 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.
