Six people were hospitalised this afternoon in a five car pile-up in Angel.
Shortly before 2pm this afternoon a car driving along City Road collided with four parked cars near the junction with Central Street, police said.
A Scotland Yard spokesman said the driver, in his late 40s, was taken to hospital with injuries not believed to be life-threatening.
Nine people in total were treated following the incident, according to the London Ambulance Service (LAS), which tweeted: “We treated nine patients at the scene of the RTC in City Road, Islington this afternoon. Six were taken to hospital - two as a priority.”
One onlooker said the driver had been speeding as if they were drunk.
“He was speeding down the street and clipped one car, and as he passed the intersection he just collided with four or five cars that were parked,” she said.
“They were still trying to get him out the car when we left.”
She added: “I thought he might have been drunk.”
Scotland Yard said City Road is still partially closed in the eastbound direction.
