A park in Holloway is set for a £400,000 makeover and could be renamed after one of the area’s most famous sons.
The green area, which is currently known as Biddestone Road open space, is set to be revamped with natural play sections, new railings and a new entrance.
A new title is also on the cards and suggestions include Meek Meadows, a name put forward in honour of famous record producer Joe Meek, who lived in nearby Holloway road.
Meek, best remember for the Tornados’ hit Telstar, was a pioneer of sound engineering.
He had a troubled personal life, however, as a gay man in a time when homosexuality was still illegal.
His troubles eventually saw him kill his landlady with a shotgun before turning the weapon on himself.
Cllr Rakhia Ismail, Islington Council’s executive member for sustainability, said, “Providing high quality play opportunities for children is so important.
“To make this a real community success, I want local people to get involved, have their say on the plans for the park and help us choose a name they think is right.”
