MPs, union members, councillors and Palestinians with family members caught up in the warzone were out in full force – urging the government to condemn the “horrific massacre” in Gaza.

More than 500 people from the borough have also signed statement in solidarity with Gaza, asking the Prime Minister to impose an arms embargo on Israel.

Among those protesting on Saturday was Islington North MP Jeremy Corbyn, who has spent time in Gaza and is at the forefront of those asking David Cameron to recall parliament to tackle the conflict.

Mr Corbyn said: “I just feel that the British government should at least recognise the crisis that the Israelis have created in Gaza and look at the trade agreements we have with them,

“Public attitudes have changed, I’ve never had so many e-mails about Palestine than I have in the last few weeks.

“People who wish to help can pressurise MPs to push for an end to the arms trade with Israel and to stop trade agreements, funds from which are being used to bomb civilians.

“There are many people who have family in Gaza who have made their homes in Islington and have thanked me for being involved.

“They feel frightened for their family and what could happen next.

“It’s very sad – I’ve been to the University in Gaza to conferences and I watched it being destroyed in bombing on the television. I remember meeting students there.”
