The vigil, which has been organised by St-John-at-Hackney church in Lower Clapton Road in conjunction with Joseph’s parents, will take place on the corner of Hindrey Road and Clarence Road, Clapton at 4.30pm.

Church rector, Fr Rob Wickham said: “Hackney residents have been deeply shocked by the news of the shooting of Joseph Burke-Monerville last Saturday. In response to these terrible events, and with the permission of Joseph’s parents, there will be a community prayer vigil taking place. This Vigil will be an opportunity for local Hackney residents to stand together as a mark of respect for Joseph and in support of his parents. This will also be a local act of solidarity against another mindless murder of a young person, as well as a visible demonstration of a desire to see those responsible brought to justice. Everyone is welcome to attend.”

Mr Burke-Monerville, 19, who was a former pupil of St Aloysisus College in Hornsey Lane, Archway, was shot in the head in Hindrey Road, Clapton at around 8.20pm on Saturday in what is believed to be a case of mistaken identity. His twin brother escaped unhurt while his 22-year-old brother was also shot but remains in a serious but stable condition.

Witnesses heard three shots and Mr Burke-Monerville, a Forensic Science student at London Metropolitan University in Holloway Road, Holloway was rushed to hospital but died at 11.10pm.

A post-mortem at Poplar mortuary gave the cause of death as a gunshot wound to the head.

Police have opened a murder investigation and are appealing for information on two men seen running from the scene.
