Thousands of revellers are set to line one of Islington’s busiest streets at the second Cally Festival on Sunday.

The all-day event taking place in Caledonian Road, Islington, will feature live music and a host of activities. It will see local organisations and businesses spill out onto the street to showcase some of the area’s hidden gems.

The festival was launched last year to celebrate the area’s collection of diverse trade, community and art – and attracted over 5,000 people in its inaugural year.

Organisers hope that this year’s festival – which takes in a 300 metre stretch of road between Caledonian and Barnsbury Overground station and King’s Cross – will exceed that number on Sunday with even more activities planned.

Traffic will be suspended on the road for the full day and the streets will be reclaimed by party goers enjoying over 100 stalls offering delicious foods, crafts and other homemade goods.

Crowds will be entertained with music across three performance areas, including a special Cally’s Got Talent competition and a platform to showcase local talent with Islington’s Elvis impersonator Dave Elvis.

Free workshops hosted by local artists, community groups and businesses are also taking place, such as puppet making, plant potting, hula hooping, origami, and furniture upcycling.

Organiser Anya Johnson said: “The festival will help facilitate creative collaborations between businesses and local arts, community and social organisations, growing new connections within the community.

“Most importantly the Cally Festival is about coming out, meeting your neighbour, and getting involved with the fun.

“Last year the Cally Festival street event attracted over 5000 people.

“This year we are aiming for the same result and to send a whole new crowd of people away with great memories of a day to remember.”

The one-day event is funded every year by local businesses and organisations from around the Caledonian Road area as they look to showcase all that the famous road has to offer.

The Cally Festival runs from noon until 6pm and more information is available at: www.thecallyfestival.com
