Archant

A giant love letter scrawled in lavender paint on a Canonbury street has neighbours scratching their heads.

The enormous words “Rudy I love you” appeared in capital letters in Northampton Park yesterday afternoon. They appear to be intended for someone who lives on the south side of the street.

The missive from Rudy’s admirer spans the width of the street and extends as far as the junction with Newington Green Road.

It appeared between 11am and 2pm on Thursday and seems to have been written using a large paint roller. It is remarkably legible despite its size.

Rudy’s identity remains a mystery. The council could not immediately say whether it would be removing the paint, which has been partially smeared across the tarmac by car tyres.

Francesca Hughes, who lives in the street, said: “It’s not like most graffiti that you see.

“I think it’s a lovely message and it’s very sweet.”

Ms Hughes, 50, told the Gazette she did not know Rudy’s identity and wasn’t sure when the paint would be cleared.
