A former stylist to the stars has found the recipe for success at a new bakery in Tufnell Park.

Katy Taylor, 32, is fusing fashion with food at Bunny Little’s Bakery, Campdale Road, which she opened with her partner, Anabel Fielding, in September.

The pair, who live less than a minute away in Mercers Road, jumped at the opportunity when the former deli at the listed building decided to sell up.

Nine months on, Katy’s cakes fit for the catwalk are proving a hit with the locals. “I’ve always been a bit of a foodie and loved everything to do with food,” said Katy. “There wasn’t really anywhere around here that you could get a really good sandwich and a piece of cake and we used to talk about opening our own place.

“So when the shop became available it was fate, the opportunity presented itself to us and we thought if we don’t take it we will regret it.”

Katy started her career as a fashion journalist, working on publications such as Vogue and Tatler, before moving on to become head stylist for the MTV European Music Awards VIP parties.

And her background is obvious from the moment you step in to Bunny Little’s, with its Tracey Emin-style neon sign and selection of immaculately cool cakes and stylish savouries.

The bakery also boasts top chef Claire Assis, formerly of Raymond Blanc’s two-Michelin- star restaurant Le Manoir, who brings Katy’s ideas to life.

Aesthetic

The staff even hold cake conferences to brainstorm their latest ideas. Among the bakery’s most famous treats is its chocolate Guinness cake, which resembles a pint of the famous stout. “As a fashion stylist it’s about aesthetics and it’s the same thing with food. We want our cakes to look stylish and to follow the latest trends,” said Katy.

“For example, one of my favourite chefs is Nigella Lawson. To show support for her when she was going through a difficult time we made all these cup cakes with ‘Team Nigella’ on them and she tweeted us to say thanks.

“What’s great is that we can have fun with it, if we have an idea we just try it out and see how people respond. Those cup cakes sold really well.”

It’s easy to see why the bakery has already attracted visits from the likes of Damien Lewis, Kate Beckinsale and Simon Pegg, but Katy is more focussed on her everyday punter.

Her first priority is providing the people of Tufnell Park with fresh, locally sourced fun food. “We wanted to build something the community could be really proud of, and I think that’s what we’ve done,” she said.

“Just in Tufnell Park the amount of foodie places that are popping up, it’s great for the area. People seem to be responding to us and what we’re trying to do and we have lots of new ideas we’re excited to try out.”

Bunny Little’s has already started providing ready-made dinners which customers can take home and are set to run a children’s party service.

The bakery also makes celebration cakes, from weddings to birthdays, which it delivers all over London.
