Staff working on the regeneration of an Islington estate held a Victorian-themed street party to celebrate its transformation.
Employees of housing association Hyde and construction firm Rydon donned old-fashioned outfits in Union Square to mark the completion of the second phase of rebuilding on the Packington Estate.
They were joined by Cllr Jilani Chowdhury, the Mayor of Islington, who said: “During the 1960s, slum Victorian houses were pulled down to make way for the new Packington Estate. “At the time, the estate provided much needed modern social housing and it was occupied by Islington residents for more than 40 years.
“Here we stand now in 2012, on the completion of phase two of the Packington regeneration project.
“The sense of identity and community has developed and grown strong through the years and I hope it will continue to thrive in this new development.”
The party also marked the official opening of The Arc Centre, a new community centre on the estate.
