A top medical specialist from Whittington Hospital has been selected to be part of the team at the Olympic and Paralympic Games.

Panos Thomas will join a team of six selected by the Medical Organising Committee for the Olympics to volunteer their expertise at the Olympic Village polyclinic, among other venues.

He is tasked with assessing injured athletes and if one requires surgery they will be transferred to the Whittington in Magdala Avenue, Archway, for the procedure.

Mr Thomas said: “The anticipation and excitement for the Games is building and I am looking forward to my involvement and the role I can play in this great event for England.

“I feel honoured to be invited to contribute and even more so to carry the ‘Whittington flag’ to the Games!”

The hospital is one of the few sites in London which trains sports doctors, and has been doing so since 2008.

Dr Justin Yeoh, a current trainee in sport and exercise medicine, will be working as a venue doctor throughout the Olympics and Paralympics, based at the Aquatics Centre in Stratford.
