A woman was dramatically rescued from a burning building by fire fighters in breathing masks yesterday.

The 40-year-old was rushed to the Whittington Hospital with burns and smoke inhalation injuries after she was saved from flames that ripped through a ground floor flat in Drayton Park, Highbury just before 1pm.

Four fire engines and around 21 firefighters, along with five ambulance crews rushed to the fire.

Two other people were treated at the scene for smoke inhalation and the fire brigade had the blaze under control by 2.05pm.

The cause of the fire is still unknown.
