JODIE Williams has today (Saturday) added the European Athletics Junior Championship women’s 200m gold to the 100m title she blasted to in Tallinn, Estonia yesterday (Friday).
The GB junior’s sprint double was completed as the Herts Phoenix star clocked a season’s best 22.94 seconds from lane five.
Williams flew out of the blocks, led round the bend and relaxed into her stride in the straight to cross the finish line almost half a second in front of Dutch silver medallist Jamile Samuel who ran 23.31 secs.
Williams had been the fastest qualifier for the final, she came home first in her semi-final in 23.21 secs.
This came a day after the Welwyn Garden City 17-year-old also dominated the field in the 100m final.
Williams secured a Championship record, UK junior record and personal best time of 11.18 seconds to become the first Britain since Sonia Lannaman in 1973 to win the European junior 100m crown.
Tomorrow (Sunday) the Herts ace is set to compete in the women’s 4x100m relay looking for a third medal at the Championships.
