Islington Boxing Club had two winners on the Northolt ABC show last Friday.

Despite giving away experience and weight, Islington’s Masood Abdullah defeated Ricky Carr of Harrow ABC.

Abdullah never stopped working throughout the contest, landing blows to the head and body of Carr, who was competing in his first contest in two years.

Carr’s corner threw the towel in during the third round, with their man taking punishment from the sharp Islington lightweight.

Abdullah’s club colleague Jason Mallia was back in the ring again and won on a unanimous decision against Harrow’s Georgie Brown in an entertaining contest.

The first round was close, but went Brown’s way, though Mallia responded well to win the second bout in the tight affair..

The Islington man won the last round, keeping himself busy and landing the cleaner shots to head and body to claim the victory.

Earlier in the night, Alan Aleks took part in a skills contest against Alban Isaku of Northolt.

Islington also had three boxers compete on White Hart Lane last Saturday.

Club colleagues Bek Ikromkhonov and Cianan Campbell took part in skills contests against Martin Casey and Patrick McDonagh respectively, both from the hosts.

There was debut delight for Islington’s Nathaniel Duah as he stopped home hope George Fletcher in the first round.

Both welterweights traded punches in the centre of the ring, but Fletcher was caught flush with a right hand on the chin to send him down onto the canvas with less than a minute gone.

On Sunday, Islington had three boys compete in the London Finals of the Schools Championship.

Lewis Whelan-Barone stopped Powerday Hooks’ James O’Donoghue in the second round in his debut contest in an Islington vest.

Whelan outworked his rival and dominated the contest to book his place in the national quarter-finals.

William Nantu and Caiden Hughes boxed each other in the finals at under-50kg, with the latter winning on a unanimous decision.

Hughes and Whelan join Kyron Hughes in the national quarter-finals which take place in Feltham on May 13.
