There were wins for two Islington boxers on a Goodwin promotion at York Hall on Saturday.

Louis Isaacs was making his debut against Anto Nakic of Croatia and enjoyed a fine start to life in the paid ranks.

The 20-year-old produced a short right hook that dropped Nakic in the opening round, but the Croatian fighter got up.

Nakic was brave, looking to stand and trade punches with the hard-hitting Isaacs, but it was the debutant who was given the decision by the referee.

“It was hard going,” said Isaacs. “He was very strong. I spent too much time loading up instead of letting my punches go.

“Having sold 100 tickets, I wanted to please my fans.”

Bantamweight Sam Cox was the Islington man on the bill and was having his second professional fight against Stefan Sashov of Bulgaria.

Cox, who enjoyed a fine amateur career, was too skilful for his opponent and eventually won on points.

• Undefeated welterweight Kian Thomas will be looking for his ninth straight win on a Hayemaker bill at York Hall on Saturday.

The Kentish Town boxer will face Sheffield rival Nathan Hardy at the iconic venue this weekend.

Thomas has enjoyed a great start to life in the paid ranks with eight wins from eight fights, with four of his victories coming by way of knockout.

On his last outing against Ference Katona of Hungary at Wembley Arena in October, the 26-year-old was able to stop his opponent in the fourth round.

• Islington super welterweight Cherrelle Brown made her professional debut a winning one against Monika Antonik at the Camden Centre on Saturday.

Brown was fighting on a bill organised by British Warrior and was well supported by large numbers from Islington ABC, who turned up in their club tracksuits.

The super welterweight, who is a former national champion, had the faster hand speed and carried the harder punches.

Brown landed solid punches throughout, before the referee stopped the fight in the second round.
