Former Islington BC captain Aarron Morgan is looking forward to his first six-round contest when he takes on Grzegorz Sikorski on Friday night.

Morgan’s three professional fights so far – all victories inside the distance – have been scheduled four-rounders, but he steps up to six for the first time on Mickey Helliet’s show at the Camden Centre, Kings Cross.

“It’s my first time doing six rounds, so I’ve been sparring a bit more and for longer rounds but I haven’t found it a massive difference,” Morgan told the Gazette.

“He’s a tough opponent and he’s never been stopped, but there’s a first time for everything. If I catch him on the chin in the first round and he goes down I’m not going to complain!

“If not, it’d be good to get the rounds under my belt. It should be a good test for me, I’m confident and I’m looking forward to it.”

The 26-year-old light-middleweight heads to Las Vegas at the beginning of August for a two-week training camp and is aiming to fight again the following month.

Morgan’s Polish opponent, who has won two and lost seven of his nine paid encounters to date, has only boxed outside his homeland on one previous occasion.

Helliet is also staging a show at the same venue on Saturday, featuring Islington’s former British middleweight title challenger John ‘Rough’ Ryder in a six-round clash.

Ryder, who is hoping to land another shot at the title following his narrow points defeat at the hands of Billy Joe Saunders last September, is up against Latvian Ruslans Pojonisevs.
