The latest boxing news from Islington

Former Islington captain lightweight Jeffrey Ofori earned a seventh straight win in the pro ranks by beating Luke Fash at York Hall on Saturday.

The 28-year-old had been due to face Hamo Aperjan, but the Czech boxer withdrew from the bout with Fash stepping in as his replacement.

Ofori had his opponent on the back foot from the start, making good use of his stiff left jab and catching Fash with rights over the top.

In round three, Ofori began to unload and hit his rival with plenty of powerful blows, but Fash somehow managed to stay on his feet.

However, with the 28-year-old continuing to dominate in the fourth, referee Lee Every intervened to bring an end to the bout.

Ofori can look forward to a swift return to the ring when he looks to claim his first strap when challenging Jumanne Camero for the Southern Area title on September 15.

Against Camero, Ofori will come face-to-face with a rival who has lost just two of his eight bouts since turning pro in 2016.

Fellow former Islington amateur Cherrelle Brown was also in action at York Hall last Saturday and was another to maintain her unbeaten record.

Against Sylwia Maksym, the super lightweight was in a competitive bout, but it was Brown who demonstrated the better skill.

The 31-year-old won all six rounds of the contest to record a victory by unanimous decision on the Mickey Helliet show.

Kentish Town welterweight Kian Thomas is scheduled for action at Walthamstow Town Hall on Friday night.

At the time of writing, Thomas’ opponent on the WAM Boxing bill is yet to be named.

The 26-year-old has won all eight of his bouts in the pro ranks, with four of his wins coming by way of knockout.

Thomas was last in action in October last year when he stopped Hungarian rival Ferenc Katona in the fourth round at Wembley Arena.

The Kentish Town welterweight will hope for a similarly explosive display when he returns to the ring this Friday as the 26-year-old goes in search of his eighth win as a pro.
