Former Lion ABC light-middleweight Justin Menzie made it two wins out of two as a professional, comfortably outpointing Liam Griffiths on Saturday at York Hall.
Menzie weighed in 5lb lighter than his opponent, but he came out throwing big left hooks and punching through the high guard of the Bognor Regis fighter.
Making use of his extra weight, Griffiths took every opportunity to grab hold of the ex-Lion boxer and push him back onto the ropes.
But it was Menzie who dominated proceedings and referee Mark Green scored the contest in his favour by 40 points to 36.
The 30-year-old told the Gazette: “I was pleased with how the fight went. When he felt my power, I knew he would try and hold me, so I tried to keep the fight at a distance.”
Lion youngster Krishan Singh produced a classy display to win his bout in the Metropolitan Police novice Lafone Cup tournament at York Hall.
Fast punching from Singh, representing a North East London area squad, earned him a unanimous decision against George Landers (Dagenham).
Singh’s younger brother Amo will now contest his national schools’ quarter-final in Bodmin, Cornwall, later this month after the venue was switched from Bristol.
