Lion ABC’s Louis Isaacs dominated all three rounds as he marched through to the Class A Under-63kg divisional final at the England Youth Championships.
Isaacs, who won the NABC London title in October, took on Debden ABC’s Yunus Hussain in Friday’s North East London semi-final and seized control of the contest right from the start.
Throwing right and left hooks to the head and body, Isaacs forced his opponent onto the back foot and looked the stronger fighter throughout, with the judges awarding him the contest by an overwhelming margin of 30-27, 30-26, 30-25.
“I was always in control in this contest,” Isaacs told the Gazette.
“These new rules of three-minute rounds suit me.”
Isaacs is due to take on Billy Joe Foster (West Ham) in the final on Thursday.
However, the other Lion entrant in the tournament, Billy Underwood, was eliminated despite giving a good account of himself against Repton’s national junior ABA champion Jimmy Smith in the Class A Under-66kg.
Underwood traded punches with his experienced opponent, who had just returned from the European Youth Championships, but he had no answer to Smith’s fast hands.
With Underwood forced up against the ropes at the end of the second round, Lion coach Steve Walters retired his fighter – although, under new rules, the result went down as a technical knockout.
