Former Islington BC captain Aarron ‘The Marksman’ Morgan scored his fourth straight professional victory inside the distance ahead of next month’s training camp in Las Vegas.

The 26-year-old light-middleweight halted Greg Sikorski in five rounds with a sharp-hitting display at the Camden Centre, Kings Cross.

Anticipating his visit to the famous Nevada fight city, Morgan said: “It will be great experience working in the gyms where some of the best fighters in the world will be training.

“Floyd Mayweather Jr is training for a fight in September – so if he is looking for some decent sparring I’ll be available!”

Morgan piled on the pressure against his Polish opponent, whipping home accurate jabs and close-range uppercuts to shake his rival.

Sikorski gamely tried to get back in the contest, but the Londoner showed the faster hand speed and the harder punch as he turned up the power in the fourth round.

Clusters of punches again found their way through the Pole’s defences in the fifth session and it was no surprise when referee Jeff Hinds stepped in just four seconds before the bell.

Morgan added: “He made me work hard for this win and I had to think before letting go of my punches. Overall I was pleased with my performance but I know there is still a lot to learn.”

Morgan’s manager Mickey Helliet staged a second show at the same venue 24 hours later, where Islington middleweight John ‘Rough’ Ryder marked his 26th birthday with a points win over Ruslans Pojonisevs.

Ryder dominated the six-round contest throughout, landing several heavy shots to the body, while his Latvian opponent did his best to respond with some wild punches.

However, it was no surprise when referee Robert Williams scored all six rounds to Ryder for a 60-54 victory – his 18th in 19 professional bouts.

The former Angel ABC amateur told the Gazette: “He was a lot shorter than me and because he was crouching down, the target was very small.

“I did get caught by a few of his punches that I should have avoided, but you can’t go six rounds without being hit.”
