Highgate captain Jake Sharland top scored for his side to lay the foundations for a four-point winning draw in a rain-affected match against Harrow Town in Division Three of the Middlesex County Cricket League.
Visiting Town bowler Mehul Gokani claimed stunning figures of 8-33 but Sharland struck 65 while his fellow opener William Russell also hit a half-century as the hosts were skittled for 210 off 36.5 overs.
The weather meant Town were only given 24 overs with the bat and they easily avoided defeat with 136-3, but Highgate took the lion’s share of the spoils.
Sharland was asked to bat and the skipper notched 65 off 78 balls, including seven fours and two sixes, while Russell also struck seven fours on his way to 52.
Kamlesh Desai (2-73) eventually removed Sharland and Russell became the first of Gokani’s eight victims but, with rain reducing the overs, Highgate could now afford to be adventurous.
Ed Binns added 15 off 10 balls with two sixes and, although Chris Arul (1), Ed Atkins (4) and Ben Sudell (2) went cheaply, Craig Gourlay plundered 38 off 24 balls.
William Brookes added 11 at a run a ball and Johan Desilva (6) and Freddie Barrass (4 not out) emulated that personal run-rate before Highgate were skittled after 36.5 overs.
There was little chance of dismissing Town in 24 overs and, although Sudell caught Prashantkumar Patel (4) off the bowling of Edward Foster (1-37), Bhavik Thakkar hit an unbeaten 80 off 71 balls.
Gokani made 37 before being caught and bowled by Gourlay (1-38) but and Brookes (1-16) then bowled Arslan Khalid for a golden duck as Town finished with a slower run-rate and settled for a single point.
