North London CC youngster Milly Pope is looking forward to a bright future in the sport and hopes to be able to break into the senior England side before too long.

The 18-year-old Pope has been training and playing with the England Academy all year and the highlight of her season was top scoring in a T20 against Scotland.

Pope hit a rapid 45 off just 31 deliveries and followed that up with the ball by taking a wicket for just 13 runs from her two overs.

The teenager also played for Middlesex this season and helped them avoid relegation in a must-win game against Sussex, when Pope’s very tight 10-over spell saw her take a wicket at a cost of just three runs.

Pope, who has just started a geography degree at Leeds University, said: “Playing alongside girls from the current England squad during both the Academy matches and in the county championship has proved invaluable in terms of gaining experience playing at the highest level.”

North London CC chairman and youth manager Martin Issitt added: “We are very proud of Milly and she is a testament to the hard work the club has put into the development of girls’ and women’s cricket over the last 10 or so years.

“We have a growing group of female players with a number of county reps and there is at least one other young player who could easily follow Milly’s trajectory.”
