North Middlesex beat ealing in final on Sunday

North Middlesex captain Tom Nicoll knows his team can be proud of their achievements after winning the Middlesex League T20 competition for the third time in four years.

Nicoll’s men successfully defended their title on Sunday with a nine-run win over Ealing in the final.

Batting first, a top score of 52 from just 34 balls by Evan Flowers helped North Middlesex post a total of 157-7.

Luke Hollman then impressed with the ball for North Middlesex, finishing with figures of 4-20 to help restrict Ealing to 148-9 in reply.

And Nicoll was thrilled his team were able to perform so well against a team as dangerous as Ealing.

“It was a good weekend for everyone involved and it was great to win the T20 final against an in-form Ealing team,” said Nicoll on the success.

“It was a bit of a tricky wicket, but we started brightly and Evan was the pick of the batsmen.

“It was a good weekend for him too as he scored his 9,000th league run for the club on Saturday.

“Luke Hollman is someone who we know is talented and he showed his class by taking 4-20 with the ball to be named man of the match.”

North Middlesex now go forward to represent the South East Area semi-finals of the National Club T20, where they will face Cambridgeshire champions Cambridge Granta.

And Nicoll is hopeful that the club can go further in the competition than they have done before.

“It’s the third time we’ve made it through to the South East Area finals, but hopefully we can progress through that this time,” he added.

“We know Cambridge Granta will be tough opposition, but hopefully there will be a good crowd cheering us on at Wanstead on July 30.”

After the joy of the T20 win, North Middlesex are back in action in the Middlesex Premier Division on Saturday.

And Nicoll knows their success in the T20 final last Sunday will have given the team a big boost.

“The T20 win has given us massive confidence now and we’re ready for the match with Teddington in the league on Saturday, but we know it will be tough,” he said.

North Middlesex won by 148 runs against Southgate in the league last weekend.
