Craig Gourlay collected six wickets against Harrow Town to clinch Highgate’s third straight win and keep up the pressure on the top two in Division Three of the Middlesex County Cricket League.

Third-placed Highgate posted a total of 238-8 declared and that proved too steep a target for struggling Town, who subsided to 157 all out in 35.1 overs.

Gourlay, who led the side in the absence of the injured Jake Sharland, won the toss and his decision to bat paid off as Chris Arul, Ed Binns and Will Russell kept the scoreboard ticking over.

William Bowley made 16 before giving a return catch to Parth Goradia (1-32), but Arul (44) and Binns (56) took Highgate to 103-1 with a stand of 75.

Arul eventually fell to Mehul Gokhani (5-65), while Binns made his second half-century in successive weeks before he was lbw to Avishka Kumarasinghe (2-79).

Russell struck a brisk 50 and, in tandem with Ben Sudell (25), guided his side past 200 before Nick Brunner hit a quick 16, but the middle order then fell away.

Ed Foster and Gourlay both departed first ball to Gokhani before William Brookes (7 not out) and Johan de Silva (12no) shepherded Highgate to 238-8 from 51 overs.

Like the visitors, Town reached three figures with just a single casualty – Goradia, dismissed for 24 by Jack Peck – while Highgate had to cope without opening bowler Brookes, who pulled up injured after just three deliveries.

But Gourlay (6-44) had a big impact, removing Manhar Patel (17) before Bhavik Thakker (34) fell to Foster (2-12).

Gourlay then blew away Town’s middle order, dismissing Prashantkumar Patel (2), Inarajit Halpage (0), Kumarasinghe (4), Gokhani (7) and Suketoo Patel (0).

When Foster bowled Ankit Patel (0), Town were on the brink at 120-9, but Hitesh Sejpal (26no) and Kamlesh Desai (12) held Highgate up with a stand of 37 before Peck captured the final wicket.
