The Shepherd’s Cot club still welcomed 70 people to their grounds on Friday evening and will hope to have more back on August 17

Highgate were forced to cancel their first women’s only softball cricket festival on Friday, but have already rearranged it for later this month.

Johan de Silva revealed his disappointment at having to call off the evening due to the bad weather, but was pleased with the amount of people who turned up at Shepherd’s Cot and is excited about the club helping develop girls and women’s cricket.

He said: “Sadly we lost our battle with the elements on Friday, with torrential rain, thunder and lightning responsible for the cancellation of the cricket-related element of the activities.

“However, we were able to welcome more than 70 people to the club for a social, and have plans to reschedule this event to Friday August 17.

“Women’s cricket is high on the agenda of both Highgate CC and Crouch End CC, and we look forward to becoming a force to be reckoned with in the local area.

“Winter planning includes indoor training as well as the establishment of a committee, integration with Middlesex Cricket and pushes for funding opportunities.
