There is plenty to play for in the Middlesex County League Division Two with three games left

Hornsey will aim to make ground on one of their Middlesex County League Division Two promotion rivals this weekend, according to captain Garfield Struthers.

The Tivoli Road club will make the trip to struggling Barnes on Saturday as the top two, Stanmore and Enfield, face off elsewhere.

Only one of the sides currently in the promotion places can win, so if Hornsey can claim a victory themselves it will boost their aim of going up.

But captain Struthers warned his team not to underestimate their ninth-placed opponents, he said: “The most important thing is we win at Barnes.

“I said to the boys I don’t care what the top teams do in the last three games, we just have to make sure we win every fixture and people keep putting in man of the match performances.

“I know one of Stanmore or Enfield will lose on Saturday, so the key thing for us to make sure we keep winning and let’s see what happens on the final day.”

Hornsey won their third game in a row last weekend to keep the pressure on their promotion foes.

After winning at Stanmore on August 4, it was vital Struthers’ men backed it up at home to lowly Southgate and they did.

The basement club were all out for 176 in reply to Hornsey’s total of 209-9 with a solid team effort earning another 10-point success.

Paul Weekes top scored with 42 while Jack Goldberg added 37 at number six and James Bull (23) and Joe Emanuel (24) also made telling contributions.

Hornsey’s target of 210 from 45 overs proved too many runs for Southgate, but they put up a fight.

In the end, Emanuel’s 4-37 kept them in check while Weekes (2-19) and Nii-Amaa Ollennu (2-39) also chipped in to dismiss the visitors for 176 in the 40th over.

Hornsey remain fourth, but are only three points off third-placed Harrow St Marys, 11 off Enfield and 16 off leaders Stanmore.

There are still three games left this season, so it is all to play for and Struthers is pleased his team are in the mix.

He said: “We’re sniffing around the top two and keeping pressure on the guys at the top.

“I am sure they will be looking at how we are getting on and who we are playing and the recent win away to Stanmore was massive.

“It keeps pressure on them and has made sure they have to keep winning along with Enfield and Harrow St Marys are up there as well so this run keeps us just in the balance which is good.”
