The captain praised his squad after winning their third consecutive match last weekend

Hornsey captain Garfield Struthers is delighted his team have hit form to set up an exciting conclusion to the Middlesex County League Division Two campaign.

Last weekend, the Tivoli Road club hosted bottom of the table Southgate aiming to make it three wins in a row.

After scoring 209 with the bat, Hornsey dismissed the visitors for 176 and remain in fourth position, but only 11 points off second-placed Enfield.

“It was really good,” Struthers said. “After a few hiccups earlier in the season, it has been nice to get on a winning run and keep the pressure on the guys at the top. It has made it interesting.”

The Hornsey captain lost the toss and they were put into bat first, but put on 71 for the first wicket.

James Bull hit 23 at the top of the order and ex-Middlesex all-rounder Paul Weekes top scored with 42 to continue his fine year.

Down the order Jack Goldberg added 37 while there were notable contributions from Joe Emanuel (24), James Fleming (20 not out) and William Prest (18).

It helped Hornsey reach 209-9 from their 45 overs and Struthers praised the reliability of Weekes and Goldberg.

He added: “They have been pulling it off throughout the year and Paul has been doing it season after season.

“Paul always puts in good performances and when it comes to a cameo Jack is always there putting his hand up to help us get over the line.”

Hornsey had to work hard in the field with Southgate producing a decent fight, but they were eventually dismissed for 176 in the 40th over.

Emanuel claimed 4-37 from eight overs while Weekes (2-19) and Nii-Amaa Ollennu (2-39) backed him up admirably.

Struthers added: “Bowling was tricky for us at the start of the season, but we have started to find our feet and everyone knows their role.

“People are performing with the ball and I said to the guys we have three games to go, let’s try and keep performing.

“We want man of the match performances from everyone and that’s what we’ve had for the last three weeks, so I can’t complain.”
