Despite the results, I have to say I loved the whole experience of our T20 double header at Lord’s last weekend.
Lord’s is such a special place and a lot of people came to watch us, so the atmosphere was great. I hope there are more days like that in the future and maybe other counties will try it as well.
Playing two matches back to back wasn’t really a problem in terms of keeping focused, although I suppose we were a bit fatigued going into the Sussex game.
With that said, we were very much up for it mentally. Unfortunately we couldn’t get the win we needed, but there’s no reason why we can’t bounce back.
On the positive side, Eoin Morgan and Dawid Malan batted brilliantly in the Essex game. Eoin’s one of the best T20 batsmen in the world and it’s a massive bonus for us to have him coming in at three.
The thing about Dawid is that he plays proper cricket shots. He doesn’t take as many risks as other players but he’s still a very explosive batsman – as are all our top three.
Personally, I was very happy with the way I played. In the first game when I came on to bowl there was a bit of pressure, with the start Essex had made.
But I enjoyed that pressure of trying to get the momentum back in our favour. I want to build on that and what better place to do it than at my old school, Merchant Taylor’s?
It’s a great place to play, the pitch usually turns a bit, and over the years I’ve got a few wickets there. One game that stands out from my school days was against UCS, when they were blocking out for a draw, and I got seven wickets.
Since I left school, I’ve played there for Middlesex’s second XI, but I’m excited about the chance to go back with the senior side. I’ve got my favourite end, going uphill, so I’ll have to make sure my captain knows that!
