Anees Davids ripped through the Wembley batting with a five-wicket haul as North London claimed their first win of the season in Division Three of the Middlesex County Cricket League in emphatic style.

Davids finished with figures of 5-26 as Wembley were rolled over for just 72 and the visitors swept past their target with two wickets down, tasting victory on a ground where they have struggled in the past.

NL skipper Jack Atchinson won the toss and had no hesitation in sending the home side in, which quickly proved to be the right call as Davids and Freddie Issitt (2-10) made immediate inroads.

None of the top eight Wembley batsmen reached double figures and they were spared total humiliation by a late rally from tailenders Alex Greig (13) and Junayd Azar (14).

But North London were in ruthless mood and good support bowling from Tom Wakeford (1-14), Peter Monar (1-15) and Ted Greally (1-3), along with sharp fielding, ensured that they finished their opponents’ innings off in the 39th over.

Atchinson led by example in the visitors’ reply, hitting four fours and a six in a knock of 35 that eventually ended when he was lbw to Ashan Athukoralage.

The skipper was backed up by Ed Dawson (17), Sam Bardon (13 not out) and Milo Jennings (8no), with the latter pair seeing NL home in the 25th over.

n North London were beaten by 77 runs in their Twenty20 Cup tie at Winchmore Hill on Sunday.

The home side totalled 213-4, built around a century from ex-Surrey and Middlesex batsman Scott Newman, and NL could only muster 136-6 in response.
