Premier League: Arsenal 2 Swansea City 1

Arsenal showed a marked second half improvement to beat Swansea City 2-1 at the Emirates on Saturday.

Two goals after the interval from Sead Kolasinac and Aaron Ramsey won the game after the Swans Sam Clucas put the visitors ahead with 20 minutes gone.

Arsenal started with the same team that beat Everton on Sunday, as Mesut Ozil, Alexis Sanchez and Alexandre Lacazette were included in the starting line-up together for only the second time.

But on 20 minutes Clucas put the Swans ahead with his first goal in a Swansea shirt through a clinical finish past Petr Check after a great through-ball from Tammy Abrahams.

Listless Arsenal rallied somewhat but their performance simply wasn’t good enough. Sanchez had the best chance but was denied by former Gunners keeper Lukas Fabianski four minutes before the break.

The team were out early after the interval and started the second half with far more focus. The change in tempo was rewarded with an equaliser by Sead Kolasinac on 51 minutes.

The large Bosnian fired an emphatic left-footed shot past Fabianski after the ball fell to him following a scramble involving Lacazette and Sanchez.

Kolasinac turned provider seven minutes later squaring for Aaron Ramsey to finish at the near post to make it 2-1. It was quite a turnaround in fortune, which was due to a far more purposeful use of possession.

Hector Bellerin nearly made it 3-1 on 66 minutes but his shot bounced off the top of the bar and away after a Sanchez cross.

Kolasinac then sent Sanchez away with a delightful backheel that was arguably the highlight of a scrappy game – before he was substituted to a warm ovation after picking up a slight thigh niggle.

Swansea attempted to force a leveller but Arsene Wenger’s men hung on for three points.

After the off-pitch shambolic showing from the club’s top brass over the last few days it was the least the fans and the team deserved.
