Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger hailed his new boys Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Henrik Mkhitaryan as the Gunners routed Sam Allardyce’s Everton side 5-1 on a rainy evening at the Emirates.

Aaron Ramsey grabbed a hat-trick as Laurent Koscielny headed home a goal while the club’s record £56 million signing, Aubameyang scored on his debut.

Manchester United capture Mkhitaryan notched three assists as Arsenal thrashed the sorry Toffees who only had a Dominic Calvert-Lewin goal for consolation.

Speaking after the match Wenger had words of praise for his new signings, saying: “In the first half we were quick, mobile, technically very sharp and we finished very well.

“Overall [Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Henrik Mkhitaryan] integrated well into our game. They have similar qualities to what our game is about – technically quick.

“It was a convincing performance. I feel the quality of [Aubameyang’s] movement was excellent. The quality of his finishing was excellent. He is not at his best physically yet.

“He looks always to give a problem to a defender by his movement. You feel once he is in front of the defender it is difficult to catch him. I like the quality of his movement and he’s always looking to go into space. Which is difficult for defenders. When we know his better and understand him I think he will become more dangerous,

“Mkhitaryan is a good link player and works very hard as well. He looked well accepted by the rest of the team and understood very well how to play with the team.

“I am not responsible for Manchester United’s decision [to swap Mkhitaryan for Sanchez]. The only thing we can say is that it was a convincing [home] debut. It shows he has the quality to play for us.”

The long-serving Frenchman insisted the duo can dovetail effectively in the same side, adding: “They look like they can play together. Before we had Mesut [Ozil] and [Alexis] Sanchez who had an understanding.

“Our challenge is to find a balance. We are a very offensive team. But we have to find a balance between attacking and defending and that will be our challenge until the end of the season.”

Wenger admitted the team’s performance on Saturday against Allardyce’s Merseysiders was far better than the way they played during the disappointing 3-1 loss against Swansea City on Tuesday.

Wenger who had been visibly angry after the match in South Wales again analysed his side during their emphatic defeat the Liberty Stadium explaining: “We had not the same focus or sharpness [at Swansea]. We played against a team that had ten men in the final third.

“We lost under very special circumstances with goals you could only concede every five years.

“Maybe our concentration levels weren’t at our best but against Crystal Palace we had a great game, against Chelsea we had a great game and we played today with a great game.

“Swansea was not the level we have played at recently and we have had to look at ourselves.”
