Arsenal face UEFA disciplinary proceedings after a pitch invader briefly disrupted proceedings during the second half of the club’s 5-1 rout by Bayern Munich last night.

The fan appeared to run onto the pitch from the North Bank and meandered to the half-way line before he was eventually jumped on by a steward after he slipped.

A statement from UEFA said: “Disciplinary proceedings have been opened following the UEFA Champions League round-of-16 match between Arsenal FC and FC Bayern Munchen.

“Charges against Arsenal FC: Field invasions by supporters.”

The Bundesliga giants also face proceedings following a number of their travelling fans holding a banner just before kick off which read: “Without fans football is not worth a penny” – in a pointed reference to the high cost of ticket prices. Moments after the game started streams of toilet paper were thrown onto the pitch which caused a short delay.

Arsene Wenger’s side were again thrashed 5-1 by Carlo Ancelotti’s impressive side to see them unceremoniously bundled out of the tournament 10-2 on aggregate.
