Arsene Wenger believes his Arsenal side will face a sterner test when they meet Galatasaray again at the climax of the Champions League group stage.

The Gunners moved into second place in Group D after they routed Galatasaray 4-1 at the Emirates on Wednesday, with Danny Welbeck netting a hat-trick.

Alexis Sanchez was also on target as Arsenal raced into a 4-0 lead, but Burak Yilmaz pulled a goal back from the penalty spot after Wojciech Szczesny was red-carded for bringing him down.

Wenger’s side take on Anderlecht home and away and then host group leaders Borussia Dortmund before travelling to Istanbul for their final match in December.

“I felt we had a good start and they were surprised by our pace,” said the Arsenal boss. “But we lost control of the game at 4-1 because it’s hard when you’re down to 10 men.

“We needed some good saves from the [substitute] goalkeeper and then you could see Galatasaray are a quality side.

“I believe our game in Turkey will be much more difficult – there is some talent in their team and I have a lot of respect for [Galatasaray coach Cesare] Prandelli.”

Wenger was delighted by the performance of former Manchester United striker Welbeck, who opened the scoring midway through the first half and added his second goal eight minutes later.

Sanchez made it 3-0 five minutes prior to half-time and Welbeck rounded off his treble early in the second half before Szczesny was dismissed and Sanchez made way for back-up keeper David Ospina.

“I wanted to take him [Sanchez] out to be a bit more solid defensively,” Wenger added. “David Ospina came on and I think he played very well.

“Our finishing was good and Danny was at the end of good collective movements. The potential is there and hopefully this hat-trick will help him to gain confidence.

“His link play is good as well, and his attitude is very positive. He’s a team player, not only a finisher and I didn’t know he was so quick – he can be electric.”
