Skipper Kevin Duffy grabbed a brace as Islington Admiral United avenged their defeat by St Paul’s Celtic earlier in the season with a 4-1 victory in the Islington Midweek League.

Nicholas Daniels put Admiral ahead after 15 minutes with a cool finish and Duffy doubled his side’s advantage 10 minutes later, latching onto Thomas White’s ball and firing past the stranded goalkeeper.

Admiral maintained that two-goal lead until five minutes into the second half, when Celtic pulled a goal back from the penalty spot.

However, the Admiral defence – Paul Donnelly, Jason Edwards, Daniel Waithe and Omar Abukar – remained calm and well-organised and Duffy soon restored their two-goal lead, collecting Haben Tesim’s pass to score his second of the game.

Andrew White sealed Admiral’s victory – and a strong all-round team effort – with a powerful 25-yard drive in the 80th minute.

Karim Essaghi scored twice to steer Regent’s FC closer to the Premier Division title as they battled to beat Islington Borough 3-1.

Essaghi gave Regent’s a first-half lead and, although Islington Borough levelled after the break, Naim Essaghi fired home to restore the leaders’ advantage.

Regent’s were reduced to 10 men on the hour mark when Jake King was controversially red-carded for retaliating to a foul, and goalkeeper Jon Sexton made some fine saves as Borough pressed for an equaliser.

However, Regent’s continued to push forward themselves and Karim Essaghi’s second of the match gave them some breathing space as they saw out the game.

Regent’s will clinch their first ever Premier Division championship if they win or draw their next game, against Islington Admiral on Tuesday.
