They’ve kept 194 clean sheets for their country between them but which one of these five shot stoppers is England’s greatest goalkeeper of all time?

Gordon Banks (1963-1972): A key member of the World Cup winning team, Banks kept three clean sheets in the group stages in 1966. Banks has 73 caps for England, the third most of any England goalkeeper, and 35 clean sheets.

Peter Shilton (1970-1990): With 125 appearances, Shilton is England’s most capped player, featuring at three World Cups with 17 appearances within those competitions, another English record.

Ray Clemence (1972-1984): Clemence made 61 appearances for England and kept 27 clean sheets but never represented his country as a first choice goalkeeper at a World Cup.

Chris Woods (1985-1992): Woods began his international career whilst at Norwich City before moving on to Rangers. In that time he kept 26 clean sheets for his country, the fifth best of any England keeper, and gained 43 caps.

David Seaman (1998-2002): Second only to Shilton in terms of both England caps for a goalkeeper and clean sheets, Seaman made his international debut in 1988 and went on to set a national record of 15 years of consecutive appearances.
