Ryan FC Under-17s have been crowned champions of the capital for the second year running after beating Petts Wood 5-0 to retain the London FA County Cup.

George Yianni and Charles Prince both scored twice in a one-sided final at Mile End Stadium on Sunday, with man of the match Jake Casey also on target.

Now Ryan are chasing a league and cup double, with four games left for them to add the Eastern Junior Alliance Hertfordshire Division championship to their collection.

Manager Jamie Houghton said: “For most youth players, getting to a County Cup final would be a great achievement – to actually win two in two years is remarkable.

“This is a special group of players and we’re really proud of the way they’ve progressed.

“There’s no secret to their success – it’s purely down to the hard work and dedication they’ve shown.”

Ryan, who started as favourites after knocking out Wingate & Finchley and Redbridge in previous rounds, struck inside the first five minutes as Yianni stretched to turn in Prince’s cross.

Prince added his name to the scoresheet just after the half-hour mark, heading in to finish off a short corner routine involving Casey and Robleh Xasan.

While Ryan’s back four dealt comfortably with the aerial threat of their opponents, Prince struck again to make it 3-0 with another header just before half-time.

Houghton made a number of changes in the second period and one of the new arrivals, Reuben Hinkson, made an immediate impact with a free-kick that the goalkeeper could only parry to Casey, who gobbled up the rebound.

EJ Gyebi – who was unlucky not to score himself – set up Ryan’s fifth goal with a cross for Yianni to head home.

Petts Wood threatened belatedly and Ryan goalkeeper Zac Gotlieb made two superb saves from set-pieces to preserve his side’s clean sheet.

Ryan: Kyriacou, Govey, Fitzsimmons, Taylor-Reid, Houghton, Belindir, Prince, Casey, Yianni, Xasan, Rahman; Gotlieb, Gyebi, Hinkson, Allen, Protheroe.
