Robel Bahelbi continued his successful transition to longer distance with a personal best in the 5,000m in the South of England Championships at Crystal Palace.
Bahelbi, who had previously focused on middle distance, clocked a time of 15 minutes 12.98 seconds to take ninth place in the senior final, with Highgate Harriers team-mate Brahma Pochee 14th in 15:29.00.
Highgate’s Over-40 runner Nina Anderson also had a successful weekend at the championships, recording season’s best times of 26.53 and 58.41 in the 200m and 400m respectively.
Harriers’ Alima Diabate warmed up for this weekend’s Southern League meeting by finishing sixth in her 100m heat (13:07), while Liam Ormes clocked 10.92 to take fifth place in the men’s sprints.
Also in action was Emmanuel Olatunji, who finished seventh in his 100m heat with a time of 11.27.
Olatunji is one of four Highgate youngsters to have been selected for next month’s English Schools’ Championships in Birmingham, where he will run in the senior boys’ section.
Hannah Viner competes in the senior girls’ 1500m steeplechase, while Georgia Fear, who recorded a championship best at the London Schools’ event on Saturday, will run in the intermediate girls’ 3,000m.
Isayah Boers finished second in the 200m at the London championships with a personal best of 22.74 that was enough to secure entry standard for the intermediate boys’ section in Birmingham.
Also competing at the London event was Amber Vernon-Powell, who was third in the intermediate long jump (4.34m) and Alessa Lewis, who matched that placing in the junior high jump (1.45m).
