Three Highgate Harriers members achieved some impressive results in different disciplines, both at home and abroad.

Damien Lane headed all the way to South Africa to take part in the gruelling Comrades marathon.

The event takes place on course over 90km, stretching from Pietermaritzburg, almost 2,000 feet above sea level, to the coastal city of Durban, with the race run in the opposite direction in alternate years.

Lane finished the punishing race in a time of seven hours, 59 minutes and three seconds to place 1,054th in a field of 19,058.

Closer to home, Tessa Strain was part of the England team that triumphed at the Home International fell race in the Lake District, finishing seventh in her race.

Over-65 athlete Tony Richards, meanwhile, won the shot put and discus events at the Surrey Masters Championships, though it came at a cost.

“I was throwing the very heavy hammer and injured my back,” revealed Richards following his double gold-medal success.

Earlier this month, Hannah Viner collected a bronze medal in the 1500m at the South of England Championships.

Viner advanced to the final of the event after finishing second in her heat, coming home in a time of four minutes and 32 seconds.

The Highgate Harriers athlete improved to 4.26 in the final, which was enough to see Viner finish in third.

The bronze medal continued an excellent run of form for Viner, who triumphed in the Met League earlier this year.

Yasmin Goater also ran in the final of the women’s 1500m and was ninth in 4.35, having earlier finished fourth in her heat in 4.41.

Robert Wilson also made a final in the men’s 5000m after clocking 15.16 to place fifth in his heat.

Wilson improved his team to 15.11 in the final, which was enough to see him finish eighth overall.
