Islington kickboxer Syed Haider Mannan has reiterated his desire to become a world champion after claiming his first European title in Manchester.

The 52-year-old won the gold medal in the Over-85kg category for sparring at the combined British and European Championships earlier this month.

“I’m training very hard and now I’m a European champion, my ambition is still very high,” he said. “To become world champion is my dream and I’m desperately looking for sponsorship to help make that happen.”

Mannan, who had already won three domestic titles despite serious health problems and an ongoing leg injury, is now preparing for the FSK British Championships at the end of August.

A black belt seventh dan, the Islington fighter will also be representing England at the World Tae Kwon-do Championships in Michigan during the autumn.
