Great Britain’s women’s hockey team overcame the absence of injured captain Kate Walsh to record their second win of the tournament, beating South Korea 5-3.

Walsh, who broke her jaw in GB’s opening match on Sunday – a 4-0 win over Japan – was missing from the line-up at the Riverbank Arena and may not feature in the rest of the tournament.

But her team-mates fended off a second-half recovery from South Korea to ensure that that they maintained a 100 per cent record going into their third Pool A match, against Belgium on Thursday.

Nicola White, Crista Cullen and Alex Danson were all on the mark as GB took a 3-1 lead, but Han Hyde Lyoung and Park Mi Hyun then struck in quick succession to level the match.

The British team held their nerve, however, and Georgie Twigg and Chloe Rogers both netted inside the last 10 minutes to clinch victory, although there was a late scare when Danson fell awkwardly and had to be stretchered off.

In Tuesday’s other Pool A fixtures, the Netherlands beat Japan 3-2 before China and Belgium fought out a 0-0 draw
