Wimbledon resident Laura Robson is disappointed after her straight sets defeat to Maria Sharapova.

The 18-year-old gave the Russian a scare but the world number three, who achieved her career Grand Slam this year, had enough to send the Brit out of the singles competition.

“It’s always tough playing the number two in the world or however ranked she is now,” Robson said.

“She won the French Open so she’s obviously in great form and I had chances I didn’t take so it’s definitely disappointing. I’ve still got mixed doubles [with Andy Murray] to look forward to.

“It’s tough playing against someone like that because you have to go for so much on your serve, otherwise she’s just going to start ripping returns. She definitely puts you under pressure.”
