The Shaftesbury Barnet athlete will represent Team GB in the 200 metres
Abi Oyepitan is thrilled by the prospect of representing Great Britain on home soil at London 2012.
The Shaftesbury Barnet runner, 32, ran in the 200 metres final in Athens in 2004 and, after overcoming a five-year injury nightmare, she is hoping to repeat the feat.
“You can easily become overwhelmed and I don’t know how I’m going to feel until I’m standing out there on the track,” she told the Kilburn Times.
“Of course it’ll be an amazing experience, being London born and bred – I’m going to be one of a few hundred people representing Great Britain in the Olympics, in my home city.
“That’s something that’ll never happen again in my lifetime and it’s pretty special.”
A last-minute strike from substitute Nicky Ward snatched a dramatic 3-2 victory for St Paul’s Celtic over Regent’s Park Estate in the Islington Gazette Cup final at Market Road.
