Old Streetonians captain Harry Marson is aiming for a title charge in London Three North West this season, despite his opinion of the league being very competitive.

Marson’s men finished in fourth place last season and he believes they now have to push on after a slow start cost them dearly last time around.

The skipper did praise his side’s efforts last year to salvage their season and give a good account of themselves, though.

“Given it took us a while to find our feet last year, fourth was a good result,” Marson said.

“We had a streak of seven games unbeaten and proved to ourselves that we can be consistent performers and thrive at this level.

“We’ve spent time reviewing where we fell short and have made changes accordingly.

“As a result our goal this year is to finish at the top of the league. I know this group of players is capable of it; no other target would do them justice.”

The captain feels the division will be very strong this season and has backed newly-promoted sides in Royston and London Welsh to have a real impact.

“It’s looking like a very competitive league,” he added.

“The teams that have been promoted, Royston and London Welsh, we know well from our time in Herts/Middlesex One.

“Both are ambitious sides and will be feeling confident from their promotion.

“Also there is a strong group of teams remaining from last year so we’ll have to be at our best every Saturday.”

Marson is pleased to have kept the majority of his squad and has also brought in some new talent to build up the competition for starting places.

“We’ve kept the vast majority of our squad from last year and have got some great new talent joining us,” he added.

“This has given training an additional edge as players compete for positions. Being located in central London means we attract many new Londoners or university leavers of all levels of experience.”

Old Streetonians will start the season at their Haggerston Park home against Stevenage Town on Saturday, September 8 as they look to get their title charge underway.
