Rain stops play on day three for Middlesex

Wednesday, September 27, 2017

Somerset’s charge towards safety in the Specsavers County Championship First Division was halted by the weather on the third day of the relegation clash with Middlesex at Taunton.

Middlesex batsman Sam Robson is hoping his side can make a strong start to day three of their County Championship match with Lancashire at Lord’s.

Wickets continued to tumble on an overcast day at Lord’s as Middlesex gained a slight advantage on a match destined to end within three days if the weather holds.

Middlesex’s tail wagged to end their first innings against Lancashire on 233 all out – after earlier subsiding to 89-7 as the home side’s bowlers then made significant inroads to leave the visitors on 113-5 as 15 wickets fell on day one.

Middlesex and Yorkshire will almost certainly have to settle for a Specsavers County Championship draw following rain on day one and more rain and bad light from early afternoon onwards at Headingley on day three.

If Middlesex batsman Sam Robson has set himself targets between now and the end of the season that might earn him an England recall he’s keeping them to himself.

Middlesex seamer Toby Roland-Jones was pleased with how his side bounced back on day two of their County Championship match with Surrey at The Oval.

Stuart Meaker spearheaded an impressive performance by the Surrey attack as Middlesex were hustled out for 247 on the first day of their Specsavers Championship match at the Kia Oval.
