PEAK ISLINGTON

An Islington man has started a lone crusade to rid every pub, bar and restaurant in the borough of plastic straws.

A Clerkenwell pub is set to reopen as a fine dining restaurant selling pigs’ ear crisps, snail skewers and grilled duck hearts.

A Finsbury pub has sacked off all meat and dairy to go 100 per cent vegan.

Try this for peak Islington: a luxury Japanese-themed dog kennel, complete with exposed beams and traditional straw matting, has been handcrafted by a Southgate Road architect to raise cash for charity.

Cafes and restaurants selling booze in Camden Passage has become the archetypal Islington row.

Some people consider “peak Islington” to be Upper Street’s generous range of artisan gluten-free bakeries. Others reckon it’s the Holloway homeowner who built a £2,500 cat glamping enclosure in her yard. But there was another contender on the steps of Islington Town Hall last night.
