Meat People in Essex Road

A new steak and cocktail restaurant has opened in an iconic Islington venue that has served food for close to 100 years.

Meat People, in Essex Road, opened its doors in January and offers tasty slabs of beef, quirky and classic drinks, and specialist meats like springbok and kanagaroo, all served in Grade II listed art-deco surroundings.

The building was originally known as Alfredo’s, a cafe opened by the Deritis family in 1920, and until recently was the home of sausage and mash shop S and M.

The interior decor is such that part of cult film Quadrophenia was filmed there.

Meat People is open daily for lunch between 12noon and 3pm and dinner from 6 to 11pm, call 020 7359 5361 for reservations.
