Islington’s top dance theatre has received a major cash boost to support new work.

Sadler’s Wells in Rosebery Avenue has been handed 600,000 by The Monument Trust to pay for new commissions.

The money will go towards projects including a collaboration between the Poet Laureate, Carol Ann Duffy, and choreographer Liv Lorent, based on the Brothers Grimm fairytale Rapunzel.

Chief executive Alistair Spalding said: “We are extremely grateful to The Monument Trust for its recognition and endorsement of our commissioning policy. This generous grant is a significant boost, allowing Sadler’s Wells to maintain its commitment to supporting artists to create new work, which in addition to developing new talent, lies at the heart of our vision for dance.”
