A pioneering pop-up is hosting a night of all girl hip-hop to try and move the goalposts in the male-dominated genre.

The Silver Bullet, in Station Place, which first popped up four years ago, is bringing girl power to Finsbury Park with a 100 per cent female line-up at their event on August 16.

The night – dubbed Girls In Front – will feature the cream of the country’s femcees, but the opening slot is reserved for up and coming talent from the area, who can apply to perform.

Bella Gotti, formerly known as No Lay, a well-regarded MC on both sides of the Atlantic, will be headlining the show.

She said: “I’m really looking forward to it. It’s one of only a couple of London shows I’ve got this year. I feature on Tricky’s new album so I’ve been out of the county on tour with him.

“So it’ll be great and I like the fact it’s all female line up – it’s really good idea and I’m honoured to be headlining it.

“It’s good to be thought of as a pioneering British female rap artist.

“The up and comers slot is a real opportunity. When I was coming up there was a lot of open mics, but there seems to be a lot less now.

“It’s a door that has been closed, especially to females.

“But this is a real chance for them to show what they can do.”

Nick Russell, who organised the event, said: “Girls In Front shines the limelight on the wealth of UK female rappers that have been recognised over the past 3 years. Also as the world shifts it’s consciousness towards gender equality, this event marks the heightened awareness of the need for females to be given equal weighting and credited for having the ability to stand up and have their voice heard.”

Other acts on the night include the Lyrically Challenged Collective, consisting of Shay D, MC Angel, Sirena Reynolds and DJ Shorty who have been packing out Passing Clouds, in Richmond Road, Dalson, for nearly five years, and Manchester’s Batz Inda Belfry.

Also performing is Birmingham starlet Elektric – a poet, songwriter and actor and emergin star C Cane.
