A Holloway student accused of tying to smuggle £16,500 in her knickers to terrorists in Syria appeared in court yesterday.

Naval Masaad, 26, of Centurian Close, allegedly tried to take 20,000 Euros on a flight to Istanbul, Turkey.

The undergraduate was arrested at Heathrow Airport before she could board the plane and was alledgedly found to have the cash wrapped in cling film and stashed in her underwear.

A few hours later police arrested 27-year-old Amal El-Wahabi, of Rucklidge Avenue, Willesden.

The two women wept and hugged each other in the dock when they appeared at Westminster Magistrates’ Court.

Both woman – of Moroccan descent – now stand charged with becoming concerned in an arrangement as a result of which money was made available or was to be made available to another, and they knew or had reasonable cause to suspect that it would or may be used for the purposes of terrorism.

The pair are thought to be the first British women charged with terror offences over the conflict.

They were remanded in custody to appear at the Old Bailey on January 31 for a preliminary hearing.

Neither of the accused indicated a plea to the charge.
